Becky S. James is an Of Counsel attorney with Employer Advocates Group, where she concentrates on wage-hour class actions, PAGA actions, and internal workplace investigations.

A native of San Luis Obispo County, Ms. James is a highly accomplished attorney with extensive experience in both criminal and civil litigation. She is admitted to practice in California, Texas, and numerous federal courts, including the United States Supreme Court. She is a Certified Appellate Specialist in California.

Her career spans several significant roles. She began her career as a law clerk for the Honorable Pamela Ann Rymer on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and then as an associate at O'Melveny & Myers. Ms. James then served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Central District of California for 13 years, where she led the Criminal Appeals Section, supervising over 500 appeals annually. She also served as the Chief and Deputy Chief of the General Crimes Section, training and supervising new attorneys in trial practice. Entering private practice, Ms. James built on her government experience and focused on criminal defense and appeals, working at major law firms and then opening her own firm. She went on to serve as the founding Chief Public Defender for the Atascosa Area Advocates Public Defender's Office, where she built and managed a team serving four rural counties,

Ms. James has served as a Ninth Circuit Lawyer Representative, serving as co-chair of the Central District of California Delegation and as a member of the Ninth Circuit Conference Executive Committee. She has taught appellate advocacy and white-collar crime at Loyola and Pepperdine Law Schools and has taught trial advocacy and appellate advocacy at the Department of Justice National Advocacy Center. She has been recognized for her contributions to the legal community, including being named one of the top white collar lawyers by the Los Angeles/San Francisco Daily Journal in 2021 and repeatedly named a Super Lawyer.

James earned her J.D. at Stanford Law School and her A.B. from Stanford University.
